Some books you read. Some books you enjoy. But some books just swallow you up, heart and soul.-Joanne Harries
Reading is my all time favorite escape. If I can imagine my ideal afternoon it would be on a beach (under the shade of course) reading a good book!
In honor of World Book Day I wanted to share with you my top 3 favorite books I’ve read in the past 5 years. These novels shook me and took me to places I didn’t realize existed. It changed my outlook on many aspects of society. I guess that’s what a great book does!
So here is my list…
Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult: Dare I say this may be my all time favorite book of all time. Some books make you think. Some books turn you to a fantasy world. Some books make you step outside of yourself and think how others feel. SMALL GREAT THINGS makes you think, step outside of yourself, take another’s perspective, and re-think your beliefs, and step outside of the fantasy world you have been living in, where all people are treated equally. It is both disturbing, heartbreaking and enlightening.
Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly: Once you read the first two chapters you will not be able to put this book down! I learned a piece of history I never knew about while reading this very well written and researched book. I love novels that are entwined around actual events. This novel follows three women, Caroline Ferriday, Herta Oberheuser and Kasia Kuzmerick, starting in 1939. How these women are impacted by World War II and how their lives intersect is the crux of this amazing story.
The Help by Kathryn Stockett: If you love, `”TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD” you will fall in love with this novel. The Help is about a young white woman in the early 1960s in Mississippi who becomes interested in the plight of the black ladie’s maids that every family has working for them. The movie surprisingly is just as good as the book! But of course I recommend reading the book first!
I hope you enjoy this list and allow these books to travel you to places you never knew!
